High School Sailing Program online membership
NSYC’s High School Sailing Program is for all levels, offering learn-to-sail instruction for beginners, coaching for intermediates, and racing opportunities for more advanced sailors. Students from all area schools are welcome to join, including rising freshmen. The emphasis is on fun and the focus is based on participant input.
The group meets every Sunday in August and September, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM, weather permitting, at the Park Avenue Boating Facility in Highland Park on Lake Michigan.
Sailors use NSYC’s dinghy Sunfish and Barnett sailboats, supervised by US Sailing-certified instructors.
Parents are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the program and to join NSYC.
See Membership Costs for fees and membership options.
Beginning sailors must attend the first three sessions in August for Learn-to-Sail classes taught by US Sailing-certified instructors. Attendance at all sessions is NOT mandatory for returning and experienced sailors. All sessions are supervised by certified instructors with a safety boat on the water.
How to join
Participants must have a North Shore Yacht Club membership, accessible in two ways:
As the child of a current Full-Membership Family the teen simply needs to register for High School Sailing and pay the HSS club dues ($50). Note that the parent should log in with their Member Planet account and select HSS Sign-up for Full Members
OR
Junior Membership If the teen’s family does NOT have a Full NSYC Membership, they can register for an individual NSYC Junior Membership (ages 13 – 20) which includes the High School Sailing fee, and is valid for one year. Junior Members may choose the calendar year term (January - December) OR the academic year (August – July).
See the Event Calendar under our Events tab for specific dates.
