About the
North Shore Yacht Club

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan at the Park Avenue Boating Facility in Highland Park, Illinois, since 1933, the North Shore Yacht Club (NSYC) is an affordable, all-volunteer, not-for-profit membership organization. We welcome sailors, kayakers, power boaters, stand-up paddlers, and are home to Outrigger Chicago. Our members share a love for the beautiful lakefront in a warm and relaxing environment. Membership is open to residents of all communities.

Our Programs and Activities

• Adult Sailing Course (7 weeks, Saturdays or Sundays, June–July)

• High School Sailing Program (Sunday mornings, August and September, ages 13 and up)

• Sunday group recreational sailing and racing with free Racing Workshops

• Introductory Kayak courses and skills development clinics

• Full Moon Paddles

• SUP classes and competitions, including the Midwest Paddle League Annual Beach2Beach Race

• Family activities such as the Cardboard Boat Regatta and Waterfront Fest

All classes are led by US Sailing and American Canoe Association certified instructors. Newcomers are always welcome!

Facilities and Equipment

Members who complete required courses and skills assessments may use NSYC’s Sunfish and Barnett 1400 sailboats, kayaks, and paddleboards on a first-come, first-served basis, except during club-organized classes and events. The Park Avenue Boating Facility features concrete and sand ramps and a beachfront boat launch to accommodate various watercraft. Park Ave. Boating Facility parking decals are available for purchase from the Park District of Highland Park.

Our clubhouse includes a beachfront deck, fire pit, grills, full kitchen, lounge, private showers, locker rentals, TV, and Wi-Fi access. Clubhouse hours are seasonal and listed on our website.
